Living Areas

Step back in time and relax in The Cable House, a magnificent 2nd Empire home in historic Heart’s Content, Newfoundland, Furnished with antiques and old world charm, the house is perfect for Bed & Breakfast stays, family reunions, retreats, weddings and other occasions. Walk trails to the nearby ocean or along the famous coastline hiking trails, visit nearby communities and attractions, or just relax under a 130 year old beech tree in the beautiful peaceful gardens. Ted Rowe’s Book “Connecting the Continents: Heart’s Content and the Atlantic Cable”, tells a compelling story of the successful landing of the Atlantic Cable in 1866. Heralded as “the most wonderful achievement in an age of scientific marvels”, this accomplishment made headlines around the world and established this small fishing village in Newfoundland as a hub of international communication for almost a century. The industrial and social impact of the pioneer cable station, with it’s elite group of British operators, had a significant impact on the town’s unique cultural development in contrast to the other traditional outports of Newfoundland.
